The Red Lily Health service area is approximately congruent with the West Arnhem Region Council Area, minus Maningrida and outstations but possibly including a portion of the Unincorporated area to the west of the council boundary towards Marrakai.

The total population of the West Arnhem Regional Council Area as at 30th June 2018 was estimated to be 6,902 people, of which approximately 2,600 live in Maningrida and outstations. As there are probably less than 100 people living west of the council area who are likely to access Red Lily services, the following statistics are reported for the West Arnhem council region, but it should be remembered that over 1/3 of this population lies outside of the Red Lily service range. The orange boundaries show the extent of Indigenous Locations – a census geography designed for reporting of Aboriginal populations.

Approximately 70% of the West Arnhem population is identified as Aboriginal. Apart from Maningrida, the non-Indigenous population is concentrated in the township of Jabiru and the surrounding areas of Kakadu National Park. The remainder of the region has a predominantly Aboriginal population concentrated in the communities of Gunbalanya, Minjilang, Warruwi, Mudginberri, and Manmoyi with smaller numbers dispersed throughout the surrounding homelands and the Coburg Peninsula.

The Mamadawerre community does not have any census population recorded but is likely to be occupied intermittently throughout the year by up to 40 people.
